Youth softball

Slow pitch softball at Schneider Park for children ages 4 through 18.

What kind of league this is

Everyone is welcome, all skill levels. Everyone gets to play, and everyone is expected to play and learn. It is very rare that we have a player sitting the bench. This league is about teaching the players, building camaraderie, and having fun. It is competitive, but in most cases the teams cheer each other on and congratulate each other on good plays.

Age divisions

The youngest two divisions are coed. From Coach Pitch up, boys and girls play in matching divisions.

* Youth Pitch runs only when enough children register to field teams. In seasons when it does not run, 13-year-olds play Kid Pitch and 14- and 15-year-olds play USSSA.

How registration works

Registration is in person at Schneider Park, on Nolan Adams, Sr. Field, across three weeknight sessions in February. It is not online.

  • $50 per childPaid at registration. No child can be registered without the fee. Cash or check, made payable to Chackbay Ballpark Inc.
  • Birth certificateBring it with you. Every child needs theirs present to register.
  • Age cut-offA child must be 4 for TOT Ball, or 5 for T-Ball, on or before May 31. Anyone turning 19 before August 1 is not eligible to play.
  • Moving upIf your child has a birthday before June 15, we may move them up to the next age group.
  • Extra shirts$20 each, ordered and paid for on registration night.

If you cannot make any of the three evenings, email us at info@chackbayballpark.org.

If you have more than one child in the same division, you can ask for them to be placed together. Teams are chosen by the coaches in a blind draft, so you cannot request a particular team or coach.

2027 registration is February 16, 17 and 18. Three evening sessions at the park, 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Any change is posted here and on Facebook. See the full season calendar →

A few house rules

No "hot" bats. For player safety and for insurance reasons, altered bats are not allowed. The umpires decide whether a bat is eligible, and their call stands.

Please only sign up if you can commit. A blind draft builds the teams out of whoever registers, and a child who stops showing up leaves a hole in a roster. Everyone (players, parents, and coaches) has to be in it for the season to work.

We need coaches and umpires

More than 90 coaches and umpires are needed every season, all volunteers. Each team needs an adult who will be there week after week and game after game.

Games run Monday through Thursday evenings through the season. If you can give those nights, tell us and we will find you a spot.

Questions

If you are new to the park, unsure which division your child falls into, or want to know when registration opens, email us or message us on Facebook. Someone will get back to you. For dates, the season calendar has everything that is set.
