Schneider Park does not run itself.
It has taken people who show up and do the work, and it has taken them since 1980. Every season here was paid for in evenings and Saturdays by people who asked for nothing back. This page is where we put their names.
Honored at Schneider Park
Rev. Fr. Clemens Schneider, Jr.
The park bears his name · veteranA much-loved pastor at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, and a military veteran. The park was dedicated as Schneider Park in his honor on May 10, 1970, the parish's thank-you for everything he gave this community, and especially its children. He died on June 9, 1982.
The name on the gate has been his for longer than most of the families who pass through it can remember.
Nolan Adams, Sr.
The field bears his name · 1980 to 2023The park was opened in 1970. By the time Nolan Adams, Sr. took it on ten years later, it was in complete disrepair. The doors were coming off their hinges, and before anything else could happen he hauled off more than seven truckloads of trash, glass and debris.
He asked a friend what could be done about the place. The friend told him somebody just needs to grab the bull by the horns.
He grabbed that bull and held it close for 43 years, retiring in 2023. The playing field at Schneider Park is Nolan Adams, Sr. Field, dedicated in his honor by the Knights of Columbus Council 8743.
He still comes out most weeks to volunteer and to watch his grandkids play on the field he built.
Somebody just needs to grab the bull by the horns.
